Easy Financial Aid for College Students

Find Easy Student Financial Aid

Face it these days college financing can be hard, and students are overwhelmed trying to find financial aid. The easiest way to find it is by filling out a FAFSA. The only problem is the FAFSA is calculated through a “need based” formula. Need based financial aid can create some stress. Everyone that applies will not receive but you have to apply just to find out if you are eligible to receive it. As mentioned in a recent post people become students are misinformed and they think that they don’t stand a chance to qualify for this type of student aid.

Financial Aid Mistakes

The most common mistake is that students think their families make too much money for them to receive need-based financial aid. This doesn’t happen with just need based sources but with general scholarship and grant awards. Merit scholarships are something that students just have to earn. The need based and general financial awards are applied for and your eligibility is determined by the aid provider.

Financial Aid Office

Another problem that many students face is lack of resources. For whatever reason some students
don’t know where they need to go to find financial aid information. Every College and University has a financial aid office with a staff that is trained to advise students with college financial information. The college financial aid office provides your with the applications and necessary information. With that being said there are two types of financial aid. There is federal aid that is provided through the government and there is student aid that is provided specifically from your college or university. The resources provided from your school are limited because of the funds in their accounts and various other reasons.

Financial Aid Packages

Your student aid package may not be what you think it is… There is a term called “need gapping” where colleges award students a portion of the financial aid they need so they can have more money available for other students. This results in a high amount of debt. Students and families need to make sure they understand the terms of their aid package. Is it partial is it full is it going to be consistent over 4 years, the likelihood of it changing etc. These are all very important and often overlooked aspects of accepting financial aid packages for college.

Financial Aid Advice

The most important financial aid advice is “Don’t pass up any opportunities” For example I’ll throw two at you right now

  • Fastweb
  • Scholarship Experts
  • Have you heard of these two scholarship searches? Well if you haven’t already take advantage of their benefits. It can only help you, try it now see for yourself. The last piece of advice I want to say is you must try to keep the ratio of Loans to scholarships and grants low! And last but not least when it is time to apply, don’t be the last student to inquire about these awards. Good Luck!
