Sacrifice to Find Scholarships

Hard work to get Scholarships

Not only does it take hard work to get scholarships, it also takes hard work to find scholarships! You may be using scholarship searches, books, magazines, reading newspapers, blogs and and hard working to get scholarships. But never get discouraged, because the bottom line is to get a scholarship it’s truely a sacrifice. I am writing this blog motivated by my own personal experiences. Today I woke up feeling very sick, and I hate to say but I still went into my internship. Reason being is that the staff raises a fuss when others are absent. I’ve been getting asked all week about the teacher I work with because she’s been out, even though she gets sick days. My point about sacrifice is I am a non-paid intern at a middle school. This is how I pay or have my college paid for. Master’s degree to be exact. The sacrifice I made was getting rid of a job with excellent benefits a 403b retirement
package, health insurance (the good kind with $10 co pay), dental, eye ( eye glass and frames were 80% and better discount than the store managers) and still brought home $982 per paycheck. Granted I wasn’t making a whole lot of money but everything else was priceless. I gave that all up to get 18 credits of my master’s degree paid for. Now you see my point about a sacrifice?

What you should do to find a scholarship

What you should be doing is sacrificing a few things to increase your chances of getting a scholarship:

  • Time
  • Schedule
  • Follow up
  • What you should be doing is sacrificing time and creating a regular schedule that will allow you to read about, search and apply for scholarships a few times per week. Once you get that started you need to still continue with this schedule but also add the concept of following up with the scholarships that you have apply for and scholarship searches that you have registered for. With this schedule and making these small sacrifices you will definitely increase your chance of getting a scholarship. Scholarships with bad grades

If you have been following my blog you know that you can get scholarships with bad grades. However those that don’t follow my blog will say, huh…How is it possible to get scholarships with bad grades?

    Scholarships based on need

I know what your thinking right now, everyone needs a scholarship. Actually in a perfect world yes however there are people who have saved all of their life for a college fund. These people can afford to pay for college. There are people who don’t even have a checking or savings account, nevermind a scholarship fund. And yet it is still eqaully important that they have a chance to attend college. Not always true but generally these types of students are students from the lower to middle income level. I have even using those terms because I hate to label people especially students. But to be politically correct these are the terms used by coorporate america when determining who needs a scholarship.

In closing I just want to add that you should never pass up a scholarship or opportunity to find a scholarship! If you see something about a scholarship read it just to atleast see what it’s about. I saw the flyer about an internship that offers 18 credits towards your masters about 100 times going to class. I inquired about it once and knew it would entail me quitting my job. Then when I realized I could make this sacrifice I took advantage of the opportunity. I’m already planning ahead for next fall 2010. There is an opportunity where the College I attend graduate school at will pay a $9000 stipend to any certified teacher willing to work a few hours a week with students who need literacy intervention. And I love to help people so I will be looking forward to this opportunity. Well good luck and thanks for you support at scholarshipsupport.com

Why you should apply for more scholarships

Why should you apply for more scholarships?

This is definitely a no brainer, it’s like practicing your favorite sport, game or studying for a test. What happens when you do any of the above? You get better or you do a better job. I don’t know if this is a cliche but I heard Mr. Peterson tell his 6th grade class that if you like what your doing, you will do a better job at it and you will do more of it. With that being said if you don’t like searching for a scholarship then change your attitude and the way you approach it. As a teacher I have to say that what works for one student may not work for others. Bottom line is the more scholarships that you apply for the more likely you are to find a scholarship or some form of financial aid!

    Scholarship Searching Approach

This one will be a freebie, if you are lazy then start by using a scholarship search. Thats step one if you like the idea of sitting in the library or bookstore browsing books, go look through a few scholarship books. And if your going to the library to look for scholarship information please bring a notebook so you can jot some things down. I actually have done this on numerous occassions to provide my audience with free scholarship information. Don’t worry you don’t have to thank me because I write to help everyone find scholarships. All I ask is that you pass the information along and you do your part to help others find scholarships as well. But the bottom line is that you have to have a scholarship searching approach. One that is effective, it could be manual it could be automatic like: Fastweb!

    Don’t forget about college grants

A lot of students who need financial aid don’t even know the proper terms. All they think of is free education and they associate that with the term scholarship. When they hear the term financial aid they think loan, and when they hear grant they think the same thing. But to make it clear financial aid is just the broad or general term for money that is used for college tuition and expenses. So yes it can refer to a student loan but most of the time it doesn’t mean that. A grant is an award that a student can receive for tuition related or college expenses. So keep these definitions in mind when looking for Financial Aid. Good Luck!

    Facts about FAFSA

Yesterday I spent some time commenting on other scholarship blogs. I cam across a post that said something along the lines of the FAFSA is for low income families. Now the reason that I am making a big deal about this is because the information is:

  • 1) Inaccurate
  • 2) Discouraging
  • 3) Misleading
  • I put myself into the position of someone who isn’t middle or low income, and has a need for a scholarship. I could see how this would cause millions of students to not fill out or submit a FAFSA. That would partially explain why students don’t apply for scholarships. Because they receive inaccurate information and they become discouraged. They began to think that these scholarships aren’t for them or they don’t qaulify. Don’t be discouraged because you have read or heard some inaccurate scholarship information.

Why you should apply for FAFSA

You should apply for financial aid by filling out your FAFSA for many reasons. Below I have listed the reasons that I think are the most important.

  • 1) It’s Free
  • 2) 3 Different types of Grants
  • 3) It is available for everyone
  • Fill out FAFSA find money for college

The FAFSA is free, you do not have to pay any money for any component of it. There are atleast 3 types of grants that you may be eligible for or qualify to receive. How do I know if I get fafsa? FAFSA is open to anyone regardless of your family financial status. This is true because your need is determined by your Estimated Family Contribution or EFC. This is an equation that takes many things into account to determine your need for free financial aid.

With that being said make sure that you fill out your FAFSA. And as far as inaccurate information, make sure that you research scholarships and grants so you will know for yourself if you are eligible to receive them. Don’t pass up any scholarships or opportunities to receive financial aid. Good Luck!

    Additional Federal Grants
